Scarborough Party
Celebrating the Scarborough creative community
Join us to celebrate the Scarborough creative community at this year’s Scarborough Party!
We're keeping it local with music by DJ Lewy, food from your neighbourhood faves, and our Scarborough-themed raffle. We invite you to contribute to the community share slideshow, with an image or short video that represents your work and/or connection to Scarborough, as a way to get to know each other.
The party offers the chance to visit our current exhibition, Futures, with works by Scarborough’s own Rajni Perera – the hometown stop, part of a national tour organized and circulated by the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. You can also explore works from the permanent collection by Scarborough artists such as Esmond Lee and Mariam Magsi, on view in the U of T Scarborough Library, as well the exhibition Threads of Refuge, featuring portraits by Scarborough photographer Anthony Gebrehiwot, on view in the Instructional Centre atrium.
As part of the party, we will be highlighting two new publications centred on artists/projects from Scarborough: the digital catalogue for Three-Thirty (curated by Anique Jordan, with works by Kelly Fyffe-Marshall, Aaron Jones, and Ebti Nabag) and the digital and print editions of it’s because of the shimmer, the verge, and the yet (works by Erika DeFreitas).
Mix and mingle with friends old and new, and spend an evening sharing your love of Scarborough with the folks who create the art and culture that make this place so special!
While we especially welcome folks within the Scarborough creative community, all are welcome. Registration is required.
A cash bar will be offered, and food will be available. Attendees can come and go as they need, and seating will be available. The Scarborough Party will take place across two spaces, the Doris McCarthy Gallery and Ralph Campbell Lounge, located across the hall from the gallery. Both spaces are wheelchair accessible. If you have accommodation requirements, please contact dmg.utsc@utoronto.ca.
