Scarborough Landmarks Workshop with supercollective
The first in a series of public programs offered by supercollective as part of their current artist residency at the DMG, Scarborough Landmarks is an exercise in noticing and celebrating the mundane landmarks in our lives that make up the places and spaces that we hold dear. Through this workshop facilitated by supercollective member Faizaan Khan, participants will begin to understand how we've marked this land, be it through our routines, rituals, memories, communities, and more. While the impacts we make might never become 'landmarks' we should acknowledge and show them dignity in the face of impending development and change in the city. As Scarborough evolves, how do we decide who gets to stay? Which cultures, places, and practices get to continue to thrive here? Let's gather and rethink how we value the landmarks of our daily lives.
The workshop involves drawing, sharing, and mapping. All supplies will be provided, just come with your stories and some of your favorite Scarborough places in mind.
Space is limited, registration is required. If you have accommodation needs, please let us know through the registration form or contact dmg.utsc@utoronto.ca. The gallery is wheelchair accessible and seating will be available.
