Prologue

by Students of courses VPSD56H3 and VPSD57H3 in the Studio Art Program, U of T Scarborough, with instructors Marla Hlady and Will Kwan

This publication accompanies the exhibition Prologue, the 2023 Studio Art Graduating Exhibition presented at the Doris McCarthy Gallery, produced by students in the upper-year U of T Scarborough Studio Art courses VPSD56H3 and VPSD57H3, with instructors Marla Hlady and Will Kwan. The prologue is a liminal zone, a space where context is established, history is reckoned with, character is developed, but also where we are offered a glimpse of a world to come. Prologue excavates different points in this temporal continuum, from poignant engagements with the past through personal history and memory, to sober assessments of current technological, social, and ecological conditions, to hopeful, forward-looking imaginings of recuperation, sanctuary, and survival.

The publication includes artist statements, images, and an introduction by Marla Hlady and Will Kwan.
