R.I.S.E. Edutainment

Nuit Connects x DMG Artist-in-Residence

In collaboration with Nuit Blanche / City of Toronto and the Dept. of Arts, Culture & Media

R.I.S.E. Edutainment was selected as the inaugural Nuit Connects x DMG Artist-in-Residence program.

During their residency, members of R.I.S.E. audited University of Toronto Scarborough courses, and developed programs to connect the campus and community. At R.I.S.E. Catharsis poetry workshop, guests were led through poetry exercises, and invited to the open mic to perform, and spoken word and soul performances. Each event followed the organization’s model to encourage youth to dive deep into their stories while using art as a cathartic practice to explore their vulnerability and create room to best deal with their mental health.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

R.I.S.E Edutainment creates safe and inclusive spaces for youth and emerging artists to express themselves in a positive way. Through their Edutainment methodology, they empower performance artists to create meaningful art rooted in self-knowledge and self-expression. They believe art has the power to transform the lives of many youth who seem lost to the system.

R.I.S.E's programs provide youth with platforms to perform, learn and develop leadership skills. Their model encourages youth to dive deep into their stories while using art as a cathartic practice to explore their vulnerability and create room to best deal with their mental health
