Young Creatives Program Film Screening & Discussion

And end-of-year program celebration of the 2016 Young Creatives Program (YCP). Founded in 2014 by community-based educator, Alyssa Fearon, the YCP is a Scarborough youth arts program that aims to cultivate the creative practices of young people living in the Kingston-Galloway area. This year’s edition aimed to subvert dominant colonial narratives of Scarborough’s history by equipping the young artists with tools to create their own narratives. The program culminated with a final group film project in response to several weeks of workshops based on social activism and community building. Toronto-based filmmaker, Thembani Mdluli, and trans-disciplinary artist, Anique J. Jordan were the artist mentors to this year’s group.
