Works by Mahin Fatima, Mortasha Ho Tung Chan, Millan Khurana, Bryan Lai, and Ashley Narine

Curated by Sofia Suleman, Undergraduate student, Department of Arts, Culture, & Media, U of T Scarborough

Spaces of Conflict and Contemplation is a student-curated exhibition that brings together recent works by University of Toronto Scarborough Studio Art students.

Varying in media from painting, photography, digital media, and light installation, the works are produced out of deep reflections on the lives and circumstances of the artists. In conversation with one another, they communicate ideas, experiences, and events from the past and present that are ever evolving and liminal. The artists engage with intersecting concepts of self-reflection, hybridity, as well as reflections on elements of light and space. Their works provoke connections and contemplations about human experiences of identity, conflict, self-reflection, as well as the interplay between private and public spaces.

Spaces of Conflict and Contemplation is the ninth in a series of annual student exhibitions presented in partnership between Cedar Ridge Creative Centre and the Doris McCarthy Gallery, University of Toronto Scarborough, as part of the DMG @ Cedar Ridge Creative Centre Curatorial Program. The exhibition is the culmination of a curatorial internship at the Doris McCarthy Gallery by a student or recent graduate of the University of Toronto Scarborough.
