Scarborough Mycological Foray

Led by gardener/forager/florist Deirdre Fraser and mycologist Eli Pullan, this informal foray in the Highland Creek Valley will provide opportunity for participants to gather and study wild mushrooms and other local plants, learning more about their linguistic, historical, cultural, edible, ecological and medicinal properties, while enjoying and celebrating nature. Free and family-friendly, all are welcome!

The Scarborough Mycological Foray is a unique part of the collection of the Doris McCarthy Gallery, donated by Outdoor School (Diane Borsato and Amish Morrell) as a recurring participatory performance and archive. The DMG presents the foray annually with changing collaborators, adding new voices, perspectives, and expertise.

Free, registration required. If you have accommodation needs, please let us know through the registration form or contact dmg.utsc@utoronto.ca.

The walk will begin from the H-Wing Patio at U of T Scarborough at 10 am. Participants are asked to dress for the weather and conditions, and bring a basket in which to collect their findings. More information about how to prepare for the foray will be provided upon registration.

This program will be held outdoors, and it will go forward rain or shine. Participants can choose how much of the valley they would like to explore during the program. The Ma Moosh Ka Win Trail leading into the valley is wheelchair accessible; the trail that continues beyond is an uneven, dirt path. This program will include opportunities to sit down/rest.
