Scarborough Mushroom Foray

Led by Diane Borsato and Amish Morrell of Outdoor School, and Alan Gan of the Mycological Society of Toronto, this informal foray in the Highland Creek Valley will provide opportunity for participants to gather and study wild mushrooms. Join us to learn more about the linguistic, historical, cultural, edible, ecological, and medicinal properties of fungi and other plants, while enjoying and celebrating nature. Family-friendly, all are welcome!

The Scarborough Mushroom Foray is a unique part of the Doris McCarthy Gallery Collection, donated by Outdoor School as a recurring participatory performance and archive. The DMG presents the foray annually with changing collaborators, adding new voices, perspectives, and expertise.

The walk will begin from the H-Wing Patio at U of T Scarborough at 10 am. Participants are asked to dress for the weather and conditions, and bring a basket in which to collect their findings. More information about how to prepare for the foray will be provided upon registration.

Free, open to the public. Registration required. Light refreshments will be served.

This program will be held outdoors, and it will go forward rain or shine. Participants can choose how much of the valley they would like to explore during the program. The Ma Moosh Ka Win Trail leading into the valley is wheelchair accessible; the trail that continues beyond is an uneven, dirt path. This program will include opportunities to sit down/rest.
