For the Places that Ground Us: Community Poetry Workshop

Presented in partnership between Cedar Ridge Creative Centre and DMG for student exhibition 'Inside & Out'

Creative writing workshop with emerging writer Lamia Firasta, focusing on meditation, connection, and the creation of a group poem

In this creative writing workshop led by emerging writer Lamia Firasta, participants will consider the places that hold a special place in their bodies, minds, and hearts. Through engagement in a series of breathing, visualization, and meditation exercises, participants will channel their creative side. The session will end with a collective group poem, and a casual tea chat, encouraging everyone to connect.

Participants should bring their own:

- Teacup, filled with favourite drink

- Paper

- A writing utensil (pencil or pen)

- An open mind

Registration is limited. After registering, participants will be provided with the Zoom link. This program will not be recorded.

About the artist

Lamia Firasta is first generation Indian Ismaili-Muslim Canadian writer interested in the intersections of mental health and writing. She is currently an undergraduate student in Psychology and Creative Writing at the University of Toronto. Her poetry was recently featured in the Hybridity exhibition at Gallery 1265 and published in Women’s Issue Magazine. She is an avid spoken word performer. Last year, she was a semi-finalist at the Toronto Poetry Slam, and she has performed at ARTSIDEOUT, Monologues at UofT, Etobicoke Arts and various Open Mic Nights.
