Community Braiding Project

Presented by Sociology Reads Led by Monique Aura

Monique Aura led a free, drop-in, arts-based workshop that focused on raising awareness about missing and murdered Indigenous women and the inquiry, through the creation of a community art project. This workshop called attention to self-love and self-care. Participants received strips of canvas on which they were invited to write or draw – anything from a good thought, a prayer, a truth, a story, a poem, symbols of love or hope – and then braid with a red ribbon. Towards the end of the session, participants attached all of the braids together for strength and unity.
