In Tako-Pinehsiiwan, Animikiik’otcii Maakaai paired pastel drawings with audio to tell her personal story of transformation, strength, and resilience found through Ceremony.

This exhibition was the culmination of the 2018/2019 Indigenous Youth Artist-in-Residence program, a collaboration between the Doris McCarthy Gallery, 7th Generation Image Makers (a program of Native Child and Family Services Toronto) and Department of Art, Culture & Media at U of T Scarborough.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Animikiik’otcii is an emerging multidisciplinary artist from Toronto with family ties to Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation and Brecon, Wales.
