An interview with the Doris McCarthy Gallery's summer 2018 artist-in-residence Alyssa Bistonath on her project 'Portals'
On July 21, 2018, the Doris McCarthy Gallery hosted a film shoot led by Bistonath, casting 100 Guyanese people of all ethnicities and ages for the final scenes of 'Portals' -- a documentary/science fiction film about the Guyanese diaspora. This four-channel film was produced for and projected on the Scarborough Civic Centre for Scarborough’s first Nuit Blanche on September 29, 2018. Alyssa Bistonath's work, including the 'Portals' astronaut, was on exhibition at the DMG as part of the exhibition 'It Can Only Be This Place' (September 4 - November 3, 2018).
