Roots of Resiliency is a student-curated exhibition that brings together recent works by University of Toronto Scarborough Studio Art Students.

Roots of Resiliency reflects on the journey one takes when relocating from one home to another. Uprooting one’s life can be daunting and isolating, but also exciting, offering new possibilities, perspectives, and challenges along the way. Having to leave behind the people and places that provide comfort and security is destabilizing, but there is strength and opportunity in adapting to new environments. Exploring themes of intergenerational knowledge, cultural identity, assimilation, dysphoria, and migration, the artists included in this exhibition explore their unique and deeply personal stories of movement, community, and family, demonstrating the resiliency and tenacity that can be found in planting roots in new places.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Roots of Resiliency is the eleventh in a series of annual student exhibitions presented in partnership between Cedar Ridge Creative Centre and the Doris McCarthy Gallery, University of Toronto Scarborough, as part of the DMG @ Cedar Ridge Creative Centre Curatorial Mentorship Program. The exhibition is the culmination of a curatorial internship at the Doris McCarthy Gallery by a student or recent graduate of the University of Toronto, created to allow students to practice their skills and show their work in public spaces.
