Light from Scarborough
Reflective Video Essay by 'New Light' Educator-in-Residence Myuri Srikugan
Light from Scarborough is a reflective video essay developed by DMG Educator-in-Residence, Myuri Srikugan in response to the exhibition Doris McCarthy: New Light (May 7 - July 7, 2024). Exploring themes of community, travel, and creative experimentation, this 9-minute film considers McCarthy’s legacy through conversations with a new generation of Scarborough-based creatives, including Ziyaad Haniff, Noor Khan, and Niya Abdullahi. Light from Scarborough explores the impacts of community and identity on their individual creative practices.
Filming locations include: the University of Toronto Scarborough’s Ma Moosh Ka Win Valley Trail, the Doris McCarthy Gallery, and Doris’ beloved home and studio, Fool’s Paradise.
This project is generously supported by Scarborough Arts.
