Collection

The Doris McCarthy Gallery manages a Permanent Collection comprised of approximately 2,000 works of contemporary art and two archival fonds. The Collections support the DMG's vision to preserve and ensure access to works by important Canadian and international artists, while stimulating conversations about the formal and perceptual boundaries of contemporary art practice. Campus installations ensure regular encounters with art, and encourage contemplation of artworks in contexts that challenge, delight, and surprise.

When acquiring new artworks, the Gallery gives special consideration to artists whose practice demonstrates a particular interest for its core audiences. The DMG is committed to increasing the amount of work created by artists who have significant roots, past or present, in the eastern GTA, work by BIPOC artists, and work that reflects Scarborough's cultural landscape. The DMG continues to form a history of acquiring socially engaged works that connect global issues with local concerns to build and enrich relationships between Indigenous, Inuit, Métis, and Diasporic artistic communities.
